Hamburg's Elbkulturfonds to boost free art and culture scene

23 April 2021
Applications for Elbkulturfonds 2022 underway - funding of up to EUR 100,000 per project

Applications for the "Elbkulturfonds 2022" are now being accepted until the deadline of June 1, 2021. Non-commercial projects across the independent scene are eligible for the scheme. The cultural fund has been increased from EUR 500,000 to EUR 750,000 against the backdrop of the pandemic, according to the Ministry of Culture and Media.

Support for independent scene

"Freelance artists have withstood the effects of coronavirus for over a year now and have not let the pandemic bring them down," said Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media. The support offered by the "Elbkulturfonds" is important in the second year of the pandemic. "At the moment, we need the prospect of a post-pandemic era and of artistic ideals that unfold their creative power again fully," Brosda added.

EUR 50,000 and EUR 100,000 per project

The "Elbkulturfonds" fosters interdisciplinary and socio-political approaches in the visual arts, music, dance, performance, architecture, design, photography and literature. Funds of between EUR 50,000 and 100,000 per project are available in the Elbkulturfonds 2022. A jury of experts will select the recipients.
