Hamburg's city cycling campaign aiming for 2.5 million kilometres
Cyclists are being urged to hop on their bikes instead of using their cars from September 1-21, 2022 during the national "City Cycling for a Good Climate" campaign. Then Hamburg will vie with other towns and cities for the most kilometres cycled. Launched in 2008, the campaign encourages as many people as possible to switch from car, bus and train to bicycle in a bid to minimise pollution.
Environmental protection network

Members include the Ministry for the Environment, the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Crafts, the Federation of Industry and the Port Association and over 1,400 companies. Employees, residents of Hamburg, students and members of various associations are encouraged to take part.
Target of 2.5 million kilometres
The German Cyclist’s Association (ADFC) organizes the cycling campaign on behalf of the ministry. After clocking up 2.18 million kilometres in 2021, Jens Kerstan, Senator for the Environment, is now hoping for a new record: "The target is 2.5 million kilometres - every cyclist counts." Registrations are now being accepted online.
