Ministry for Science and Research funding research projects that impact commerce, society and politics
Scientists and researchers across Hamburg have until the deadline of October 31, 2021 to apply for funds from the "Calls for Transfer" scheme initiated by the Ministry for Science and Research. Grants of up EUR 30,000 are available for one year. The scheme backs research projects that have "real chances of advancing ideas in commerce, politics and society", according to the ministry. Emphasis is on the idea's potential impact rather than on the scientific discipline.

Success stories made in Hamburg
Launched under the auspices of the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) in 2018, scientists can apply for funds twice a year. Researchers also receive support from Hamburg Innovation (HI), which co-ordinates the projects. In recent years, "Calls for Transfer" have led to patents, corporate collaborations and spin-offs, socio-cultural projects and art exhibitions. The funds enabled, for instance, Dr. Anne Lamp and Johanna Baare, founders of Traceless, to bring a biodegradable plastic substitute to product maturity.
