Gamecity Hamburg earmarks EUR 120,000 for prototypes

16 March 2022
April 11, 2022 deadline for applications - new funding round with higher maximum amount

Applications are being accepted for Prototype Funding until the deadline of April 11, 2022. Applicants including game developers, start-ups, founders and SMEs who wish to combine the Gamecity Hamburg Prototype Funding with other public funding schemes can apply for EUR 120,000 maximum instead of the EUR 80,000 hitherto.

More funding for prototypes

"By increasing prototype funding to up to EUR 120,000 per project, we are helping developers carry out larger projects in conjunction with other funding schemes for the games industry," says Dennis Schoubye, Head of Gamecity Hamburg. The funding should help game developers launch on the market and strengthen the diversity and quality of computer games developed in Hamburg. Two funding rounds with a total amount of EUR 400,000 are scheduled this year and will be awarded as a non-repayable grant.

Projects that have already received funding exemplify the wide range of Hamburg's gaming industry from virtual reality games like "Crumbling" to "Fantasma Ville," a so-called puzzle platformer on which players learn various skills as ghosts. Sixteen gaming projects have received EUR 841,000 since the first funding round in 2020, according to Gamecity Hamburg.
