Game developers and publishers reaching audiences in era of corona
03 March 2021

The Hamburg Games Conference gets underway from March 16-17, 2021 as a virtual multiplayer conference under the theme of "Discoverability". Organisers recently announced the agenda of the congress. The digital B2B event features  expert streams and will bring together leaders of the international games and media sector.

Over 200 games companies in Hamburg

Events on the first conference day, the so-called "Startup Day", target young games studios. The main conference on March 17, 2021 begins with a welcome speech by Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg, who said earlier: "Hamburg is one of the biggest games centres in Europe, with a strong digital economy and a broad innovation network. The Hamburg Games Conference 2021 addresses how companies can survive the increasing competition and position their digital products on the market." Around 200 Hamburg-based games companies make the city a European stronghold of computer and video games development.

"Discoverability" at centre of conference

This year's conference aims to help developers and publishers find new ways to reach their audience in a world without physical events against the backdrop of the pandemic. A record number of distribution models, online platforms are now available, organisers said. Thus, the agenda includes talks on the visibility of indie developers, managing game communities and crowdfunding successfully in keeping with the theme of "Discoverability". Keynote speakers include representatives of the games industry and range from Adobe to the California-based games publisher Electronic Arts and the InnoGames developer based in Hamburg.

Exciting new digital conference level

All delegates with business tickets can check out the game pitches on the virtual conference space and jump into video meetings with the teams to experience a whole new level of digital matchmaking! The panel discussions will focus on "How to Network Online" and "Mental Health in the Home Office". Other events will focus on games culture, games funding opportunities and games from the Baltic Sea region.

Panel on how to enter games industry

The so-called "Digger, Digi and Games!" online event on the second conference day will highlight access to the games industry and is organized by Hamburg Invest's Young Talents Hamburg Klub (YOTA). Panellists including Caspar Michel, Producer at Rockfish Games and Hannah Gutjahr, Talent Acquisition Manager at InnoGames, will give insight into how work is done in the industry. Limited places are available for the free event targeting young people aged 14 and older. The Hamburg Games Conference is jointly organised by Gamecity Hamburg and Graef Rechtsanwälte. Last year's conference attracted around 400 trade visitors from all over Europe.
