Fintech Week 2019 held against backdrop of digital transformation

Over 2,000 representatives of fintechs, banks and digital industries mulled future of finance

More than 2,000 delegates attended around 30 events during the German Fintech Week 2019, which ended Saturday (November 9, 2019) in Hamburg. The who’s who of the financial sector met innovative financial technology start-ups and discussed ideas at Finhaven, the scene of most events in HafenCity. Around 25 per cent of events were held in English for the first time, Hamburg News reports.

Digital transformation of financial sector

Topics on the agenda proved more specific both on stage and in discussions, said Clas Beese, founder and Managing Director of Fintech Week, adding, “We are in the middle of the industry’s digital transformation and people are no longer asking if, but how, when or with what they can shape change.” Around 170 delegates attended the one-day FinForward conference under the theme ”Don’t be afraid of German Angst” to mull Germany’s special features and Europe’s various fintech markets.

#DMW attracted savings experts

Other highlights included the “Make trade better “panel hosted by Fintech Hamburg, an initiative of the private Finanzplatz Hamburg e. V. cluster. Three fintechs and logistics start-ups, Saalk UG, Handex GmbH and JitPay GmbH, pitched their business models in Finhaven and discussed the interface between finance and logistics. The event held by Digital Media Women (#DMW) also proved a hit. Katharina Bremer (Finanzheldinnen), Bente Lorenzen (Bankhaus M.M.Warburg & CO, Dani Parthum (Geldfrau) and Daniel Kort (Finanzrocker) met at the Warburg Bank to discuss ETFs, P2P platforms and robo advisors for building up assets and pension plans in front of an audience of founders and people keen on sustainable investments.

Fourth Fintech Week Hamburg

Initiated by Finletter and the Betahaus Hamburg co-working space, Hamburg has hosted Fintech Week every year since 2016. The FinForward conference premiered in 2018 and is organised by the team behind Fintech Week while external designers inputted the other contents of Fintech Week.
